Winner of the trick takes it loser takes the next, face-down card. The German twist is that you are playing to win or lose the revealed card (on top of the stockpile). If one player leads a suit, the other must follow, but you are not obliged to try to beat it (or to trump if you are void).
Play proceeds as in normal whist: non-dealer leads first, and thereafter the winner of the last trick leads. This card's suit is trumps for the round. Dealer gives each player 13 cards, then places the remaining 26 face down as the stockpile and turns over the top card. A rare great two-player game for whist lovers.
